The Charolais Legend

France:

Charolais is one of the oldest French cattle breeds in the world.  The breed, regarded as a producer of highly rated meat in the markets, was developed in the region of Charolles in Central France. Registration books go back to the 1500’s. There is historical evidence that these white cattle were being noticed as early as 878 A.D.

One of the earliest herds in the region was started in 1840 by the Count Charles de Bouille. His selective breeding led him to develop a herd book in 1864. Other breeders established a herd book in 1882 and the two books merged in 1919.

Soon after the First World War, a young Mexican industrialist of French name and ancestry, Jean Pugibet, brought some of the French cattle to his ranch in Mexico.

America:

Charolais cattle made their way to the United States in June of 1936, when a ranch in Texas bought two bulls from Mexico.

This lineage of Charolais made their way to Augusta, Montana when in 1954, a Montana rancher purchased a 15/16 Charolais bull named Snowball, based upon the bull’s performance records, from Wyoming.

Every offspring from the Charolais bull, Snowball, traces his or her lineage back to the linebred original Jean Pugiet Charolais stock that was imported from France to Mexico.

DeBryucker Charolais:

The legend continues when in 1963, Lloyd and Jane DeBruycker purchased 12 heifers from the rancher out of Montana, who purchased the Charolais Bull - Snowball.

Lloyd and Jane realized the tremendous gain in red meat production and incredible enhancement of the quality of the beef. Through careful selection of only the very best genetics, we made incredible enhancement in the quality of beef.

DeBruycker Charolais are first in genetics which is why we produce legendary beef for our customers.
